Social media and politics (positive side)
The political landscape has changed quite a bit in the last couple of decades. The internet has played a large role in this transformation. Social media is now a major factor in political campaigns and people’s thinking about issues. Candidates and their followers on Facebook and Twitter are constantly posting their opinions. Each group has its own sites from which to relay propaganda and contribution requests. There are some of the main ways that today’s politics are positively influenced by social media such as the impact of polls, direct interactions with politicians, Demographics and Targeting, The Power of Confirmation Bias.
Political polling is an important component of any campaign. These are often ambiguous, as people can often find numerous surveys posted on the same day with conflicting results. The internet, like many kinds of political media, has significantly increased the number of poll results that people see every day. This has been exacerbated further by social media. People should actively participate in Facebook surveys; not only could social media sites report results of polling. Moreover, the findings of the polls have a major influence on the votes, even if they are inaccurate. A vote can be a prediction that fulfills itself. The direct interaction of politicians is one of the positive impacts that social media has on elections, making it easier for people to communicate with politicians and elected representatives. Not everyone can do this. Through modern technology, people can now take part in online activities where they can take part in live streaming events and communicate through politicians and leaders.
Targeting is used to ensure that advertisements and messages reach the right audience across the advertising industry. This is also being done by politicians. Politicians and people getting elected in the age of social media are able to target their campaigns. If a candidate wants to discuss women, college students, retired people, Latinos or other group of voter’s issues, they can now customize their messages. Just as campaigns and leaders can use information and targeted advertising on Twitter. Therefore, if people notice that political messages seem to speak to them personally.
Confirmation bias is one of the secret powers that exist on social media. This is particularly powerful if it comes to important issues, like elections. Most people on social media friends and fans are likely to share their perspective. This means the majority of tweets; comments on Twitter, Pins or other content that people find on these pages tend to express the same perspective that they already have. Social media will reinforce people’s views and make it easier to consider alternative viewpoints. This can benefit in politics to make people more compassionate and less dismissive of others. In addition to, people can conquer confirmation bias and use internet to make everyone more open-minded if they make an effort to communicate with a variety of people from different viewpoints.
Many political changes that occur as a result of social media. There are now internet voting plans that could lead to more people taking part in elections. This might make social media more important as, after reading the final comments and links found on Facebook or Twitter, people could simply vote times. Other advances will change politics as well. It becomes more prevalent and, ideally, more accurate to poll techniques on social media. There will be more online political events. When social media is increasingly popular, it will increase its effect on politics across time.
